After the massive success of the release of “The Beatles: Get Back” documentary in 2021, Beatles fans are thrilled to hear about more upcoming biopics approved and in the works. The four members of The Beatles will each be portrayed in separate biographical films, narrating the band’s journey from their individual viewpoints. Sam Mendes, known for directing acclaimed movies like American Beauty, 1917, Skyfall, and Spectre, has conceptualized these upcoming movies focusing on John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Scheduled for release in 2027, Mendes will also helm the direction of these four distinct Beatles biopics.
“We intend this to be a uniquely thrilling and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time. To have the Beatles’ and Apple Corps’ blessing to do this is an immense privilege. From our first meeting with Sony Pictures executives, it was clear that they shared both our passion and ambition for this project.” stated Pippa Harris who is Mendes’ partner at his Neal Street Productions.
Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones commented, “Apple Corps is delighted … to explore each Beatle’s unique story and to bring them together in a suitably captivating and innovative way. Sony Pictures’ enthusiastic support, championing the project’s scope and creative vision from the start, has been invaluable for all of us.”
There were various casting speculations for a potential Beatles biopic. Some fans suggested well-known actors like Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Justin Long, and Jason Schwartzman to play the Beatles. Others emphasized the importance of finding actors who resemble the Beatles and can authentically portray them. However, there were differing opinions on whether it is necessary to find actors with specific accents or if neutral accents would suffice.
These films represent a groundbreaking collaboration between Apple Corps Ltd., the Beatles, and their families. For the first time, they’ve granted permission for their complete stories and music to be adapted into scripted features. With the blessing of McCartney, Starr, and the families of Lennon and Harrison, the project will offer individualized accounts of the Beatles’ journey, with each member’s perspective intertwining throughout the four films.
