Your Ultimate Guide to the ABBA Museum in Stockholm

We’re doing something different with a full review of the Abba Museum which is nestled in the heart of Stockholm. The ABBA Museum isn’t just a museum; it’s a vibrant journey back in time to the glitzy days of disco and pop. As a tribute to one of Sweden’s most famous exports, ABBA, the museum offers a unique blend of historical artifacts, interactive exhibits, and an immersive experience into the world of Anni-Frid, Björn, Benny, and Agnetha. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a curious traveler, this museum promises an unforgettable experience. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most out of your visit.

What Makes the ABBA Museum Unique?

Immersive Exhibits

From the moment you step in, the ABBA Museum pulls you into a world where music and history collide. You can walk through a replica of the Polar Studio, where ABBA recorded their iconic albums, or explore the actual recording studio bus used during their 1977 European tour. Interactive stations allow you to mix ABBA’s music, sing along in a holographic ABBA karaoke, and even step on stage with holograms of the band.

A recent visitor, KD, has this to say about her experience, “I am an unashamed long standing ABBA fan, and this was on my must do list for Stockholm. The museum did not disappoint – in fact it exceeded my expectations. Every detail of the early years through to dissolution of the group and later projects is covered , narrated (in Swedish and English) by the band members themselves, with lots of memorabilia, famed, and recreations of rooms. Even my long suffering husband enjoyed it. We took in everything in 2 hours using the excellent audio tour.”

Personal Memorabilia

The museum houses an extensive collection of ABBA’s personal items, including their glamorous stage costumes, gold records, original instruments, and even some handwritten notes and lyrics. Each artifact tells a story of the band’s journey from local Swedish talent to global superstars.

The Ring Ring Telephone

One of the museum’s most charming features is the Ring Ring Telephone. Only a select few know the phone number, and if it rings during your visit, you might just find yourself speaking to a member of ABBA.

Planning Your Visit

Ticket Prices

Tickets to the ABBA Museum can be purchased online or at the museum. Prices vary:

  • Adults: SEK 250
  • Children (7-15 years): SEK 95
  • Children under 7: Free entrance

Buying tickets online in advance is recommended to secure your spot and avoid long queues, especially during peak tourist seasons.

A recent visitor, David, offered some helpful tips when visiting the Abba Museum, “Museum was better than expected and I am an ABBA fan already. There is a small theatre inside, they have very comfortable seats for about 20 people, suggest spending quite a bit of time here, they have a fantastic video story (animated) about ABBA group history, strongly recommend and also a concert video. On the other hand, if you speak English (or Swedish) I would recommend against the Audio guide (only $2 extra, but I found it had to navigate and co-ordinate with the various displays, all of which were well described with signage in Swedish and English.) Very easy to get there on public transit, take the #7 tram from the central station. Suggest pre-buying tickets for one of the first couple morning time slots, and then there are many other good museums with-in a few minutes walk for afterwards.”

Best Times to Visit

The best time to visit the ABBA Museum is during the weekdays, particularly right after opening at 10 AM or late in the afternoon around 3 PM. These times tend to have fewer visitors, giving you a more intimate experience. The museum is busiest on weekends and during Swedish public holidays.

Duration of Visit

Typically, a full tour of the museum takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, but if you’re a true ABBA aficionado, you might find yourself lingering for a bit longer.

Insider Tips
